The Similipal Biosphere Reserve – Here the tiger reigns supreme along with the Asiatic elephant and various types of antelopes. Numerous orchids further add color to this lush landscape. Entry Point: Joshipur & Pithabata (off Baripada).
Bhitarakanika Wildlife Sanctuary: The only reserve dedicated to the conservation of the estuarine crocodiles, Bhitarakanika with its mangroves is also home to monitor lizards, wild boars, spotted deer and numerous migratory birds. Nearby is the Gahirmatha Turtle Sanctuary where every year the giant Olive Ridley Turtles come to lay their eggs. Entry Point: Chandabali, Rajnagar and Gupti.
Ushakothi Wildlife Sanctuary: Located in the district of Sambalpur, Ushakothi also as the Badarama Wildlife Sanctuary is home to tigers, leopards, hyena, wildboar, spotted deer, elephant etc.
Chilika Brackish Wetland – Home to dolphins and various migratory and resident birds. The lake runs into a riot of colors during the winter season when the birds come to Chilika to roost providing a wonderful opportunity to birdwatchers and photography enthusiasts to watch our feathery friends in action.
